He
was at this time 81,slim with a strong mind, it was down to his tenacity and perseverance
that he persuaded Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India in the 1970s,to
have Dudhwa, become a Tiger reserve.
We
had lunch a couple of times over the next few days, also showing me around
Tiger Haven, one of the most beautiful places in the world, on the periphery of
the Dudhwa National Park..He talked about how Tiger calls of Aoowm each
evening, would be heard and visit on most evenings.
He
spent 50 years of his life fighting beaurocracy and administrations in the area
as a honorary wildlife warden and trying just as hard for Tiger across the
country..
He
asked me why the west, did not do more to conserve Tiger and forests, I could
not give him an answer at this time..
Billy
Passed away four years ago, Dudhwa and Tiger needs more fighters across the
globe like him, people prepared to fight with all resources available at ground
level.
He
has and always be an inspiration to me...
Long
live Tiger in WILD..
